Summer Birthday Card

I needed a birthday card for my nephew so I decided to try and combine that with a challenge. The challenge at IO is Summer Fun.HERE  For some of us, shelling is one of the activities that we associate with long walks on the beach that refreshes you body and soul. I was not pleased with how this card came out,but it has kinda grown on me and I don't have time to make another so I will have to send it on its merry way to my nephew.

I started with Gina K powder blue card and stamped it with the cover a card wooden plank then sponged it with distress inks in stormy sky and walnut. I did some layering of papers on the top and a piece that I found left in my scrap box from another project. It was stamped  with versa mark and the cover a card  distressed brick. I used the tim Holtz distressed embossing powder. I love the effect this gives. I sponged a little blue around the shells and shaped them a bit to give them more dimension and placed them around my card and topped it off by stamping the birthday greeting and added the IO Wishes. +
I used the following IO products for this card.
Stamp Set CL342 (I masked it so only the birthday was stamped)
Cover a card Distressed brick CC0083
Wooden Plank - CC177
Shell Set - DIE077-W
 Wishes  MC657
Code: MC657

  1. Uhm sorry, but you are crazy....this is AWESOME!!! I love beach combing AND I love your card, as will he!!! Love all of your layers and the wood grain panel (one of my most favorite things to do!) Those starfish and shells look beautiful, real life....3D.....they're GREAT!!! I also love the way you tied on that Baker's Twine, very unique, distinct and clever!!!

  3. Oh it's wonderful kathy and so full of amazing details!

  4. Oh, I think this card came out perfectly!!! It doesn't look like a "you" card, so that's probably why you weren't happy with it. But it's stinkin' AWESOME!!! All those layers and textures, just right for the kind of card it is. You wood grain panel is stellar, and all those colors work perfectly together. Also love what you did with the twine, really great. I love everything about this card, and you should too!!!

  5. Wonderful card. I love all the layers and depicts summer fun at the beach perfectly.

  6. Gosh Kathy, I think this card is fabulous! I really like the combination of the Wooden Plank and Distressed Brick CAC backgrounds - such strong, masculine elements - and those great colours: your nephew will love it!

  7. Kathy, I'm sure your nephew will love this card. You used the shells in such a creative way. It's perfectly lovely!
